Our children are the future of our society. As a candidate for District 1 in the county of Schenectady, which is right in the city, Omar will come to the table and be a part of the solution to help our students and their families through the difficulties of having an education system that is in distress.

I recognize education doesn’t fall within the purview of county government, but the students and the families who live in my district do. I will work with our district’s state elected officials to ensure our voice is heard in Albany.  It is important our county has access to proper resources for our students to succeed. I will work to continue to improve resources such as universal broadband, which is so vital because of our virtual learning. Education is a human right and should be equal for all. Throughout our country we have five school districts and the Schenectady city school district has continuously been left behind and we cannot continue to allow that to happen.

We have two world class educational institutions in Schenectady County, Schenectady County Community College and Union College. Both are places where innovation and diversity are fostered and allowed to flourish. These colleges are producing students who are workforce ready. I commit to supporting continued funding for SCCC to ensure that the programs offered are cutting edge and prepare our students to be assets to employers in our county and in the world. I will partner with Union College to increase community engagement and connect our primary education students with mentors and “student partners” within the university.
